ARCHEOLOGY MUSEUM
The geographical features and favourable climate of Anatolia attracted many different peoples to the region. Over time, these groups interacted with each other and with the indigenous people of Anatolia, creating a multi-ethnic and multicultural environment. Kayseri was one of the important centres of this diverse society. In 1948, a team led by Professor Tahsin Özgüç began systematic excavations of the ancient city of Kültepe Kaniş/Karum, located 22 kilometres northeast of Kayseri. The resulting collection of historical artifacts was so large that a new museum was built to house them. Construction of the current museum building began in 1965, and it was opened to visitors on June 26, 1969.
